Maybe it's time to rebuild?

The complexity of the machine requires us to remove every nut and bolt, steam clean, and sandblast the components. From there, each component is routed to the appropriate department, for example the dressers are sent to Joe at the dresser department. From there, he will completely disassemble the unit and then bring the brackets for regrinding. Next, he'll regrind, re-hone, and refit all components with oversize components, replacing excessively worn ones. This is only one example of the care and craftsmanship which will go into the whole machine rebuild.

The base will get primed, sanded and finally painted to look like new. After that the base will go to the assembly line. The machine will be fitted with new spindle bearings, the reground bed, and ram/ rambed are fitted. The unit will be completely checked-out and with the cycle block reground and rebuilt. It will be fitted to the unit. All components that are worn, or deem replaceable will be changed. The hydraulic unit will be disassembled and cleaned. Most likely the pump and the hoses will be replaced, along with the wiring checked. The spindle will be disassembled; bearings removed, and spindle checked for cracks. New bearings will be fitted to the spindle ( the good ones ), and checked for trueness. It will have to meet the new machine specifications before it can be satisfied.

The all speed drive is another component which is completely disassembled, cleaned, and refitted with all new bushings, bearings, belts, and etc. The infeed work rest holder will also be completely rebuilt. All of the surfaces will be reground, and a new jib will be refitted to the unit. Of coarse all aprons are replaced.

The lubrication system will get clogged over the years, and so we will disassemble the unit and clean or replace the tubing to all components, etc.

After all components are assembled on the assembly line, the unit will moved to our quality assurance area. In this area, it will be subjected to all of the same tests as a new machine. If it does not pass, the problems will be corrected.
